Meeting Points February 19: Djiribawal
To kick off our 2022 Meeting Points Series we are thrilled to present Djiribawal - a song cycle by Yuin woman, Brenda Gifford. Composed for the musicians of the Australian Art Orchestra and originally commissioned by the Canberra International Music Festival for its 2021 program, this special performance has been adapted for its Melbourne premiere to include electronic soundscapes and the voice of the composer speaking in Language.
It features a stellar line-up of players including: Aviva Endean (clarinets), Joe Talia (drums), Joseph O'Connor (piano), Sam Pankhurst (bass), Reuben Lewis (trumpet), Natasha Conrau (violin), Peter Knight (electronics), Amos Roach (didgeridoo) and Adrian Sherriff (bass trombone).
"Djiribawal is a roller-coaster of sonority and musical images ... representing the elements in all their brutality and beauty and played exceptionally well by talented musicians."
- Suzannah Conway, ArtsHub
Join us at the Malthouse Theatre on Feb 19th, 7PM. Djiribawal will be supported with an opening set featuring Amos Roach (didgeridoo and clapsticks) & Adrian Sherriff (trombone and shakuhachi).
